Job Title: Food Technologist (part time, office based)

Responsible to: Technical Director

Location: South Manchester (close to motorway networks)

Hours of Work: Ideally 5 days a week, 4 hours per day (flexible to suit)

Remuneration:  Pro rata £40,00 annual salary (£20k) - depending on experience - plus pro rata discretionary bonus

Company Background

Our client is a distributor of European manufactured ambient packaged cake, bread and morning goods to international multiples and wholesalers with a turnover of £23m.  By providing high quality food technology, development and marketing resources the company has strong relationships with major supermarkets and wholesalers.  With excellent growth prospects ahead the business is now looking to recruit a part time Food Technologist to further support the team.

Overall Purpose

  • To represent the client with customers and maintain the company's techical reputation
  • Ensure food safety, quality, legality and fitness for purpose of existing and new products supplied by the company
  • Technical contact for production sites
  • Offer Technical support to the Technical team to successfully launch new products and manage existing products within agreed timescales

Job Content

Essential:

  • Ensure all customer policies and procedures are communicated to, and implemented by, the supply base
  • Complete and maintain on-line retailer specifications to Gold Standard level
  • Produce monthly customer reports
  • Manage sample requests and sample storage
  • Manage customer complaints and agree appropriate action plan with suppliers
  • Manage the artwork process across the supply base
  • Manage routine product quality assessment panels
  • Organise microbiological and nutritional / analytical tests and evaluate trends implementing corrective actions
  • Work with the Innovations Manager to provide the technical data within the product development process

Skills / Personality

  • In depth knowledge of major multiples systems (Tesco TFMS ideal, but not essential)
  • Good understanding of HACCP and quality systems
  • Knowledge and experience in using UK retailer web based specifications systems essential (TTL, ASPECT, Inspire)
  • Bakery knowledge would be an advantage
  • Ability to evaluate data
  • Report writing
  • Working knowledge of microbiolgoy
  • Understanding of UK Food Legislation

Qualifications

  • Degree preferred in food related subject, with 3 years experience
  • HND minimum, with a minimum of 3 years experience

Remuneration

  • Pro rata £40,000 annual salary (£20k) - depending on experience
  • Pro rata discretionary bonus
  • Pro rata 25 days holiday (plus 1 day on your birthday!) plus Bank Holidays
