Role: Food Technologist

Client: An importer and distributor of European manufactured ambient packaged breads, cake and morning goods

Remuneration: £30k-£40k depending on experience plus bonus, pension, phi & 26 days holiday

Location: Greater Manchester

Status: Permanent

Our client is an established supplier to international multiples and wholesalers, with a turnover of £20m. By providing high quality food technology, development and marketing resources the company has strong relationships with major supermarkets and wholesalers. With excellent growth prospects ahead the business is now looking to recruit a Food Technologist to further support the team.

Overall Job Purpose:

  • To represent our client with customers and maintain their Technical reputation
  • Ensure food safety, quality, legality and fitness for purpose of existing and new products
  • Technical contact for Production sites
  • Offer Technical guidance to the Innovations Manager to successfully launch new products within agreed timescales

Job Description:

Essential:

  • Ensure all customer policies and procedures are communicated to and implemented by the supply base
  • Complete and maintain on line retailer specifications to Gold Standard level
  • Produce monthly customer reports
  • Attend customer quality panels / manage internal quality panels
  • Organise analytical tests and evaluate trends implementing corrective actions where necessary
  • Review customer complaints and agree appropriate action plan with factories
  • Working with the Innovations Manager to provide the Technical data within the product development process
  • Manage the artwork process across the supply base
  • Atttend factory trials, pre productions and first productions where necessary

Preferable but not Essential:

  • Carry out site audits vs BRC / TFMS standards
  • Complete and close off customer visits / audits via retailer specification system

Person Specification:

Qualifications: Degree preferred (or HND minimum) in Food related subject plus relevent experience

Skills & Experience:

  • Ability to travel & drive in the UK and abroad, occasionally at short notice (essential)
  • In depth knowledge of major multiple systems / working with major multiples (ideally Tesco TFMS)
  • Good understanding of HACCP and quality systems (essential)
  • Knowledge and experience using UK retailer web based specification systems, especially TTL (essential)
  • Bakery knowledge (especially MAP) would be an advantage
  • Ability to evaluate data
  • Report writing
  • Working knowledge of microbiology
  • Understanding of Food Legislation
  • Ability to understand French would be an added advantage but is not essential
  • Internal Auditor trained (preferable but not essential)
